Seize the summer season

June is here, that means it’s time to seize the summer season! I love June, and not just because it’s my birthday month! I also love it because it’s the Friday of the summer months, when you’re looking forward to the 3 months of fun and sun stretching out in front of you. This month contains incredible energy, and I like to bottle it and use it to my advantage.

We associate summer with fun, but I also like to use my June Energy to push myself out of my comfort zone and launch some ambitious projects that seem easier with the sun shining on my face. This week I’m sharing some of the Hard Things I’ve got going on this summer and how I strategically throw in some comfort elements to help me through the discomfort of growth!

Pushing For Growth

I'm writing a book

I’m planning to seize the summer season this year by pushing my mind and my body. I’ll be pushing my mind (and my productivity skills!) by writing a book! Now that it’s official (I signed the contract this week!) I can officially share the news. I will be taking everything I’ve learned from my life, my organizing business, my coaching clients and all of you and writing a book about Midlife Decluttering. It’s very exciting! I dreamed of being an author in elementary school, was an English Major in college and then lost sight of writing once kids and my career took over my life.

I’ve been having so much fun honing my writing skills on this blog for the past 3 years but I know that writing a book is hard work and am ready to rise to the challenge. I didn’t realize how long the publishing time horizon is. I should be finished writing the book by October, but the publisher until October of 2026!

When I’m not writing this summer, I’ll be running. I’ve officially signed up for my first Half Marathon which is happening at the end of July. I’ll be running with two of my friends from high school (because you should do Hard Things with friends, if at all possible!) I’m currently up to ten miles, and while the full 13 miles definitely won’t be easy, it at least feels possible! I’ve gotten all kinds of advice on how to support myself during and after the longer runs. I’ve compiled everything in my Amazon Storefront in case you’re interested – you can access it here.

Summer Decluttering

seize the summer for decluttering

Another way to seize the summer season is to do some decluttering in your home! I have several projects on my docket that I’ll be sharing on the socials, and that got me thinking. How could I motivate folks to use their June Energy to tackle the more daunting areas in their homes?  And so I’m inviting you to use your June Energy for decluttering! And if the invite itself isn’t enough I’m putting my Room Guide Bundle on Sale for a week!

My Room Guide Bundle is a collection of 3 E-Books focused on the most challenging rooms in any home: The Kitchen, The Garage and The Bedroom/Closet. In each guide I walk you through how to prep for decluttering, mindset strategies to help you through the emotional minefields, organization tips and product recommendations that help you maintain your hard work. The Bundle is always priced at a value. But I’ve knocked another $10 off the price for this first week of June in the hopes that folks will take advantage of decluttering this summer! You can shop the bundle here.

Throw In Some Comfort

Comfort is important when you seize the summer season

I’m a big believer in comfort. It is so important for our mental and physical health span to push ourselves out of our own comfort zone in midlife. But even as I’m announcing my intention to seize the summer season to push my boundaries, I’m lining up resources to provide comfort along the way.

What do I mean by that? Here is a little list of things that comfort me when I’m feeling scared, sore, tired or uncomfortable. These things allow me to push my boundaries while staying tethered to my comfortable self. I use different things on the list for different needs, but they all essentially do the same thing: wrap me in a warm hug when I’ve done something hard.

Feel free to borrow anything on this list, or take a few minutes and make your own! Having a comfort list will help you go far with ambitious goals. Whether it’s running a half marathon, writing a book or decluttering your Empty Nest, throw in a little comfort! In my opinion it’s an essential ingredient to a successful outcome.

Happy June!

What are you going to tackle with your June Energy? How are you going to seize the summer season this year? Please share if you feel moved to, I love to hear and root you on!

  1. We did a complete purge, went through everything…including my craft supplies, that was tough. I have binders of recipes and miscellaneous information to go through and then we’re done! So satisfying. Now I can go back to crafting projects!
